Last week of term 1!

LOTS GOING ON!
How can you not have fun with shaving foam! The children loved the texture and some just sat enjoying the texture and smell as they smoothed it over their hands.
Some delightful mark making too.

Mark making continued through the week. Roads and paths were drawn,
as well as spirals and a dinosaur.
Great conversation between children as they talked about what they were drawing.

We have been practising tracing lines this week.
Hand eye coordination, pencil control and concentration were all needed!

The children worked together with support to draw and tell the story of the three little pigs. It was very pleasing to hear them saying the repeated refrains of the pigs and the wolf so confidently and with great expression!

This was the first time some of our children had visited the older folk at their coffee morning in the hall. They enthusiastically sang and performed actions to some of their favourite songs, including Old MacDonald. Very proud of you, children!
We also managed to find time to go on a bear hunt using a great action song this week! The children especially loved racing back "home" and hiding under the covers from the bear!
Lots of stretching, climbing, balancing and wobbling across these tyres!

And that's the end of our first term -  these children have settled in so well with routines and already their journals are full of great learning.
They are building lovely friendships with each other too as they grow in confidence.
I'm sure Term 2 will be even more exciting!

Another week of great learning

IMAGINATIVE PLAY

The children have played for long periods this week developing their role play and creating little stories.

These children have changed so much and grown in their friendships and ability to share and listen to each other.
It has been particularly pleasing to see the cooperative play and verbal interaction.

And yes! Santa was back this week, giving out lots of presents again!

PRACTISING OUR NUMBER SKILLS
AND PHYSICAL SKILLS

We're going on a number hunt - look what we found in our room!
Then followed a super time of matching and comparing numbers.
Some of us went on a number hunt around the whole school too!

We used a range of tools and equipment in different ways this week.

Putting those fingers to work

IMPORTANT FINGERS
Manipulating a peg is great for developing those fine motor skills that children need for using pencils and gaining good control for writing.
These children had lots of practice this week!
Number skills were also incorporated into this - Lots and lots of counting!
We pegged up numerals for children to match, as well as ordering numbers.
Some children were able to name numerals too.

Children demonstrated good concentration as they controlled where they poured water and also balanced conkers on golf tees.
Little fingers peeled and pierced some of the soft peppers in the outdoor kitchen.

There was some very interesting looking soup!

COME AND SEE THE SHOW!
There were lots of giggles and some wonderful performances in the puppet theatre! Puppets sang songs, danced and did lots of talking this week.
It was particularly pleasing to hear children asking each other questions and responding as the puppet character.

And next week....
we will be having lots of fun with the story of The Enormous Turnip, in addition to investigating pumpkins, pomegranates and peppers!
